About Corinne
Corinne Saldaña is serving her first term as an NISD trustee.
A native of San Antonio, she was the first member of her extended family to graduate from high school or college. Since she was in first grade, she knew she wanted to be a teacher, and her goals never changed.
She graduated from Jefferson High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos and her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
She started teaching in 1970 as a math teacher at Edison High School in San Antonio ISD. She stayed there for four years before joining the staff at Holmes High School in 1974. She remained at Holmes High School for 33 years, serving as a math teacher, department coordinator, assistant principal, academic dean, and ultimately, campus principal until her retirement.
Saldaña was the first female Hispanic principal to lead a NISD comprehensive high school, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals. Additionally, she is a member of the Bexar County school boards coalition, a member of the Legislative Action Committee of TASB, and a member of the NISD building, academic, finance, technology, and policy committees. She also completed the Texas Association of School Board’s course of study for certification as a Master Trustee. During her first term, she attended all school board meetings, participated in over 850 school district activities, and volunteered over 2500 hours. She pledges to continue to be a full-time trustee!
She is married to Alfonso Saldaña, Jr., who taught and coached for 40 years in San Antonio’s inner-city schools. They have two children, Marc Christopher and Jennifer Corinne Moberly, both graduates of Marshall High School, and five grandchildren. Their daughter, Jennifer Moberly, is a math teacher, coach, student council sponsor, and class sponsor at Brandeis High School.
She and her husband are active members of the University Methodist Church. In addition to her passion for education, Saldaña enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, attending athletic events, and gardening.
